Space has become a crowded place
#Windhoek-Nauen
24. August 2025Brandenburg Museum
Großfunkstelle Nauen/ Old Train Station Namibia
Satellites fly. Masts transmit. Horns call. This performative audiowalk opens a transcultural dialogue between Namibia and Germany – about stories of telecommunications.
It takes place at the same time in Windhoek, Namibia and Nauen, Germany, re-connecting the once connected stations through colonialism and genocide in a new way. The audiowalk is broadcast through shortwave and is listened to by walkers in Windhoek and Nauen at the same time.
Music, storytelling on stage and an audio walk through the two different yet interconnected landscapes draw connections – from techniques of communicating with ancestors to the involvement of major German companies in the genocide in Namibia from 1904 to 1908 to current satellite technology.
