Connectedness
A multimedia installation along places, that don’t receive each other anymore

16. May 2025 – 02. November 2025
Brandenburg Museum/ “Signale der Macht”
Sound- & Video Installation

Grass, antennas, stones. Musicians play against old and new infrastructures. The fields around three old radio stations, formerly connected to each other, sway in the wind. ‘We did some research. In the archives in Windhoek and Berlin. In the archives of the Telefunken company. Something doesn't seem right to us.’

The installation invites to listen to the far away through horns, telegraphy and radio. It tells the violent story of genocide in Namibia 1904-1908, of the connected extraction and supression, of voices that have been silenced. These stories have strong echoes today.

We see and hear the artists walking through the colonial telegraphy stations. In Togo and Namibia, only ruins remain of the radio stations. Meanwhile, in Germany, a few remaining employees continue to broadcast everywhere. We hear stories about the continuity of telecommunication - across time and space horn music is playing.

Today, thousands of satellites fly through space, enabling us to research and connect with each other. ‘We are literally moving from one space, one planet to the next, to destroy as much as possible, not to heal. Sometimes I wonder if we want to heal anything at all.’

The installation opens up a transcultural dialogue between the three places that were violently connected to each other.
